Media Library

Upload, annotate, and manage the images and videos that bring your work instructions to life.

Clear visuals are often the difference between an instruction that gets followed and one that gets interpreted. In Threaded, every image and video you upload lives in a shared media library that’s accessible to all editors in your organization. Media can be linked directly into work steps, annotated with the built-in canvas editor, and referenced through @mentions and search, making your visual documentation as connected and traceable as the rest of your instruction set.

#Organization Media

The media library is accessed from Admin > Media in the sidebar. It displays all uploaded files in a table with columns for preview thumbnail, file name, extension, type, upload date, uploader, and usage. The Usage column shows where each file is referenced across your instruction set, making it easy to see which images are actively in use and which are unattached.

Files can be uploaded using the “Add Media” button in the top right corner. Supported file types include images (PNG, JPG) and video.

#Adding Media to Work Instructions and Actions

Media can be attached to both work instructions and Actions. When editing a procedure, media can be added in several ways:

  • From the media library: Browse or search your existing files and select the one you need.
  • Upload from your computer: Add new files directly from your desktop while editing.
  • Paste from clipboard: Paste an image you’ve copied without leaving the editor.
  • Capture from the floor: Use the mobile app or mobile web access to take photos directly at the point of use. Any image captured in the app is automatically available in the media library to all editors, removing the need for manual image transfer or emailing photos between collaborators.

When creating an Action, media can be attached from the library or captured directly on mobile. This is especially useful for operators flagging issues from the floor, where a photo of the problem often communicates more than a written description.

#The Canvas Editor

Threaded includes a built-in canvas editor for annotating and composing images without leaving the platform. You can add text callouts, shapes, arrows, go/no-go symbols, crop images, and position multiple images together in a single visual. The editor also provides access to the media library so you can pull in existing files while you work. For the full breakdown of the editor’s tools, see the Adding Visual Media section in Work Instructions.

Media files can be linked into work steps using @mentions, just like parts and tools. Type @ while editing a step and select a media file to reference it directly. This is useful for linking spec sheets, reference drawings, or supplemental documentation alongside the step where it’s needed.

Media also appears in search results, so you can find any file across your organization by searching from the top bar. For more on how @mentions and search work, see Search and Mentions.

#Media and Version Control

Images added to work instructions are part of the version-controlled instruction set. When media is added, replaced, or re-annotated as part of a draft, those changes are visible in the Change Request diff alongside text and step changes. Reviewers can see exactly what visual content changed, ensuring nothing is missed during the review process.
